چکیده

Abstract Seed shattering in naked oat ( Avena nuda ) is a severe problem, resulting significant yield losses. In the present study, seed-shattering rates were characterized set of 177 cultivars and lines. Eight with different studied several morphological physiological traits that may be related to seed at developmental stages. Three types paleas, viz. boat type, defect type flaky identified dough stage, proportion boat-type paleas found positively correlate shattering. following scaling-up study on lemmas 32 rates, length, width thickness investigated, ratio bottom/medium both showed high association tolerance oat. These indicate architecture has particularly obvious correlation More intriguingly, unique zigzag pattern cell wall was lemma tissues oat, which increase toughness strength help retention.

MUT, Z. and H. AKAY, 2010. Effect of seed size and drought stress on germination and seedling growth of naked oat (Avena sativa L.). Bulg. J. Agric. Sci., 16: 459-467 Effects of seed size and osmotic stress on germination and seedling growth of five naked oat genotypes were investigated in this study. Oat genotypes were Mozart, CROA 60, Detvan, Eva 1 and AC Belmont. Small, medium and large seed...

Transferability and utility of white oat (Avena sativa) microsatellite markers for genetic studies in black oat (Avena strigosa).

Preservation and use of wild oat species germplasm are essential for further improvement of cultivated oats. We analyzed the transferability and utility of cultivated (white) oat Avena sativa (AACCDD genome) microsatellite markers for genetic studies of black oat A. strigosa (A(s)A(s) genome) genotypes. The DNA of each black oat genotype was extracted from young leaves and amplified by PCR usin...

Combining Cultural Practices with Herbicides Reduces Wild Oat (Avena fatua) Seed in the Soil Seed Bank and Improves Barley Yield

A study was initiated in 2001at four locations in western Canada to investigate an integrated approach to managing wild oat, the region’s worst weed. The study examined the effects of combining semidwarf or tall barley cultivars with normal or twice-normal barley seeding rates in either continuous barley or a barley–canola–barley–field pea–barley rotation. Herbicides were applied at 25, 50, and...

Function of Mentzelia nuda (Loasaceae) Postfloral Nectaries in Seed Defense

Mentzelia nuda is a coarse, short-lived perennial of the High Plains of North America. The flowers secrete nectar which serves as an attractant for pollinating bees. Postfloral nectar secretion attracts ants whose presence significantly enhances seed set. This is the first demonstration of advantage to postflowering activity of a floral nectary. RECENT STUDIES of nectaries that lie outside the ...

Hydration and Pasting Properties of Oat (Avena sativa) Flour

Three oat cultivars and one oat breeding line were evaluated for chemical, hydration and pasting properties. Protein, starch and β-glucan levels ranged 11.13∼14.37, 56.37∼64.86 and 3.44∼4.76%, respectively. The oat cultivars Daeyang and Seonyang contained higher β-glucan levels of 4.76 and 4.35%. The Daeyang variety had a higher water absorption index (WAI) of 2.83∼3.35 (g/g), but a lower water...
